Details released after teacher shot in head during robbery attempt
A new police report is shedding light on a devastating shooting that occurred during an attempted robbery in Charlotte over the weekend.
Ruijuan Guo, 33, a teacher at Kensington Elementary School in Waxhaw, was shot around 11:30 p.m. on East Park Avenue late Friday night, police say.
According to a police report released Monday morning, Guo was attempting to get into a vehicle with her boyfriend and another friend when a someone approached.
That person pulled a gun on Guo’s boyfriend and demanded his wallet. Police said the boyfriend told them “he could not get his wallet out of his pocket fast enough, so the suspect shot his girlfriend in the head and then ran off.”
Medic took Guo to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries.
Kensington Elementary, where Guo is listed as a Mandarin teacher, wore purple Monday to honor her.
Kensington PTO posted the message below on Facebook, asking students and staff to show support for Guo by wearing her favorite color.
“As many of you may have heard, one of our Mandarin teachers, Miss Guo, has been hospitalized since Friday night with life-threatening injuries. As a show of love and support we are encouraging all of our students and staff to wear purple this week, which is Miss Guo’s favorite color, and bring in sunflowers, her favorite flower. Please help us spread the word to your neighbors and friends who may not be on Facebook. We love you, Miss Guo, and are keeping you in our prayers!”
According to a GoFundMe page, Guo is on life support.
