Suspect identified in shooting of crowded elementary school bus

Charlotte Mecklenburg police have arrested a teen in connection with a shot fired an elementary school bus early Wednesday, not far from the intersection of Idlewild Road and Independence Boulevard.

There were 47 children on board the bus at the time, all headed to Idlewild Road Elementary School. One of the bus windows was shattered. No injuries were reported.

It occurred at 8:48 a.m. in the 2100 block of Dion Avenue. Police said they located a 17-year-old suspect inside a residence in the 2200 block of Dion Avenue and took him into custody without incident.

He was later identified as later identified as Jose Delgado, who was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and discharging a firearm within city limits. Delgado went to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, reported the Observer’s news partner WBTV.

Officers located the BB gun that is suspected to have been used to shoot at the bus, according to a statement released by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools police are also involved in the investigation.
