Charlotte murder suspect on run since 2008 captured in Texas

The United States Marshals Service in Victoria, Texas, reports it caught a Charlotte murder suspect who has been on the run since 2008.

Ruben Garcia Padron, 39, was taken into custody Tuesday night in connection with a northeast Charlotte shooting into an occupied vehicle that killed one person and injured two others, officials said.

The shooting happened shortly before midnight on a Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the 3300 block of Mazen Court. Padron is alleged to have shot and killed David Morales Carrillo, 18. An Observer story about the shooting said a female was also shot. She treated and released from a local hospital.

Padron and Carrillo were reportedly in an argument at the time of the shooting, according to the Observer’s 2008 story.

The U.S. Marshals Service says it worked closely with detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to find Padron’s whereabouts, and made the arrest after new information about the case was learned.

Padron was arrested without incident, officials said, and will be held in the Victoria County Jail pending extradition to Charlotte.
