Charlotte’s record-breaking cold temperatures contributed to eight water main breaks Thursday. At least one new break was reported Friday morning on S. Hoskins Road.

The Thursday line breaks are all fixed, thanks to Charlotte Water crews who in some cases worked through the night. The break that took the longest to fix, and caused plenty of traffic headaches, was in the 200 block of Providence Road near Colonial Avenue.

Water was restored by 3 a.m. Friday, and crews continued to patch the road until about 7 or 8 a.m., Charlotte Water spokeswoman Jennifer Frost said. The goal was to get the area fixed before rush hour.

“Eight (breaks) is a very unusual day,” Frost said.

At about 3 a.m. Friday, a water line break was reported on S. Hoskins Road. The road is blocked between the 100 to 500 block, between Rozzelles Ferry and Hovis Roads.

At 10 a.m., Charlotte Water said it expected the road to be closed for six to eight hours.

Here are the detours: In the 100 block of S. Hoskins Road, take Rozzelles Ferry Road to Hovis Road back to S. Hoskins Road; in the 500 block of S. Hoskins Road, take Reliance Street to Hovis Road to Rozzelles Ferry Road back to S. Hoskins Road.
