Driver killed in head-on wreck in Charlotte
A motorist died Saturday morning after his car crossed the center line on Statesville Road in north Charlotte and struck another vehicle head-on, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
Charles Edward Bass II was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic. Bass wasn’t wearing a seat belt, and police said they suspect alcohol use.
About 10:40 a.m., Bass’s 2013 Mazda 3 four-door crossed the painted lane divider in the 7600 block and struck a 2004 Ford van driven by Juvencio Martinez, police said.
Martinez was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
