Gaston County is going to get a new middle school in Belmont, reports the Gaston Gazette.

Gaston County Commissioners recently approved a resolution to borrow $40 million in money remaining from voter-approved school bonds to build the new school. It would replace the aging middle school on Central Avenue in Belmont, a building which is more than 77 years old, reports the Gazette.

It will be the third new school approved for construction by the current school board, it was reported. Already under construction are a new middle school in Stanley and a new elementary school in west Gastonia. Both schools are being built on property already owned by the county.

County leaders haven’t said what will become of the existing Belmont Middle School, built in 1939, the Gazette reports.
