Woman critically hurt after stepping into path of Freightliner truck

Gaston County Police are reporting a Cherryville pedestrian was critically injured Thursday night when she walked into the path of a vehicle in the 2500 block of North Chester Street.

The department says it got a report at 9:18 p.m. that Cindy Lynn Beam, 41, of Cherryville, stepped into the path of a 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer truck traveling south bound on North Chester Street. Beam suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, officails said.

The truck driver was identified as Benjamin Porterfield of Galax, Virginia. The department says charges will not be filed against him in the case.
