Handgun found in student’s backpack aboard Cabarrus County school bus

Cabarrus County sheriff’s deputies intercepted a student with an unloaded handgun aboard a county school bus Monday afternoon.

Deputies got a warning call at 2:30 p.m. Monday, stopped the bus on Flowes Store Road and found the handgun in the backpack of a Central Cabarrus High School student. The student’s name was not released.

There is no indication the student made any threats toward other students or school faculty, investigators said. The investigation continues.
