Union County school board appoints new member
The Union County school board on Tuesday night appointed Jason Marton to replace Marce Savage, who resigned in late January.
Savage had won re-election in November to another four-year term after capturing 57 percent of the vote. The person she beat was Marton.
At its meeting, the board voted 5-3 to name Marton to the board.
Marton, a management consultant, will fill Savage’s District 6 seat until the next school board election in November 2016. That’s when candidates would seek to fill the remainder of her term.
Marton will be sworn in April 14.
Savage’s resignation came amid lots of turmoil.
She had faced allegations by fellow board members of “theft of taxpayer money” over her expenses. Savage had apologized to the board about the issue in November.
But she also is pursuing all legal remedies, according to her lawyer, after the school district publicly released her Social Security number and other personal data. District officials had apologized for that erroneous release.
