Indian Land could get 335 more jobs due to expansion of home decor distributor
Fort Mill-based home decor distributor Unique Loom plans to expand to Indian Land, creating 245 new jobs over four years, said Jamie Gilbert, Lancaster County’s economic development director.
The move will also allow the home design hub to move another 90 jobs from Fort Mill, for a total of 335 jobs for the Indian Land location.
Gilbert said the company has leased 260,000 square feet of industrial space at the vacant Defense Ventures building at 793 Fort Mill Highway.
Unique Loom is an online and business-to-business distributor that specializes in area rugs and home decor.
Lancaster County Council Chairman Steve Harper said Unique Loom’s expansion is an indication of the strength of Lancaster County and South Carolina as a business hot-spot.
“They will be a terrific addition to our growing and diverse business community,” said Harper.
Johnny Nassri, the company’s vice president, said in prepared statement that the Indian Land site would be a “great opportunity for us.”
Unique Loom will be hiring for warehouse positions.
Interested job-seekers are asked to email the company at info@uniqueloom.com and put “Employment” in the subject line.
Gilbert said job projections for the expansion are strong, and that the move brings new life to a building vacant for a long time. The former Defense Ventures building has been dormant for around three years, he said.
Unique Loom’s expansion is the third major project announced in Lancaster County this year.
Movement Mortgage recently announced the expansion of its Indian Land headquarters, and Springs Global is moving distribution operations to a site it owns in Lancaster.
Gilbert said the three projects represent an estimated 1,060 new jobs and more than $23 million in investment.
“We are looking forward to watching Unique Loom grow here, and becoming one of our largest industrial operations,” he said.
