The national media took to referring to the team as “Upstart Davidson,” but that proved to be accurate.

When Davidson baseball ousted UNC Sunday in its first ever visit to the NCAA baseball tournament, it was a matter of “Davidson Slaying Goliath,” as D1Baseball.com noted.

Hero Sports summed up Davidson’s win over UNC as a “college baseball stunner,” going on to call the game as “something of a nightmare for the Tar Heels.”

Social media, of course, erupted over Davidson’s surprise win.
