A West Iredell High School student was charged with felony assault after officials say he punched the school's resource officer Thursday afternoon.

According to the officer, Tyke'ydris Norris and another male student were pushing, harassing and bullying another student.

Officials say Sergeant Hicks attempted to break up the incident and Norris began punching him in the face. Hicks used his stun gun on Norris and put him under arrest, according to police.

Hicks also took another student into custody who police say intentionally head-butted a school employee.

Police took Norris to the Iredell County Magistrate's Office where he was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor damage to property. He was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.

The other student involved was taken to the Department of Juvenile Services and charged under juvenile law for assaulting school personnel.

West Iredell High is located in the 200 block of Warrior Drive in Statesville.
