Charlotte driver ran a light, hit and killed a pedestrian, then drove off, police say

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are seeking the driver of a white Honda Pilot who allegedly ran a red light and killed a pedestrian on Freedom Drive Sunday evening.

It happened about 11:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Freedom Drive. Officers arrived to find a male lying in the left lane. He was pronounced dead by Medic personnel at the scene, police said.

The victim had not yet identified early Monday morning.

Witnesses told investigators a white SUV ran the red light on Ashley Road and turned left onto Freedom Drive. The witness stated the SUV drove west on Freedom Drive and struck the pedestrian. The white SUV was last seen driving south on Interstate 85, police said.

Evidence gathered on the scene suggested the suspect vehicle is a white Honda Pilot and will have damage on the front left and a fog light and fog light housing will be missing, police said.

Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Detective Steve Williams at 704-432-2169.
