Man who left wheelchair and fishing gear at boat landing found safe
Belmont Police have found the man who left a wheelchair, fishing poles and a tackle box unattended Sunday at a boat landing, as if a fisherman had vanished.
The man was found safe and had not been in any danger, Police Chief Chad Hawkins said Tuesday.
The man had recently undergone a medical procedure and left the boat landing without his belongings due to an emergency, according to the chief. Police are not releasing the emergency that caused the man to leave Kevin Loftin Riverfront Park Boat Landing at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday.
The Belmont Fire Department and Charlotte Fire Department searched the water and shore line, and found nothing that day. The man turned up on Monday, Hawkins said.
