Rock Hill police investigating homicide; one wounded

Rock Hill police are investigating a homicide Sunday after a gunshot victim was driven to Piedmont Medical Center and died, according to police.

Police have not arrested a suspect and an investigation is ongoing “into the night,” according to Rock Hill police spokesperson Mark Bollinger.

The deceased male victim has not been identified, police said. A woman was also shot at the scene, in the 200 block of Sunset Drive, but her injuries are not life-threatening, Bollinger said in a written statement.

Police responded to a call around 6:15 p.m. and were told one of the victims had been driven to Piedmont Medical Center by a private vehicle, Bollinger said. It is not clear if the deceased victim died at the crime scene or at the hospital.

Officers were told a crowd gathered at the hospital and that it was put on lockdown, however, Rock Hill police did not place the hospital on lockdown and the shooting did not occur at the hospital, Bollinger said.

“We have officers there assisting and detectives tell me everything has calmed down there and at the scene,” Bollinger said.

A hospital spokesperson referred a question on whether or not the hospital was on lockdown back to Rock Hill police.

No further information is available on either victim, Bollinger said, and police do not have any accurate descriptions of the suspect or suspects.
