Charlotte man arrested, accused of June sexual assault
Police have charged a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in June in southeast Charlotte.
The victim reported she was walking toward a bus stop on June 18 at 11:46 p.m. when a man approached her with a gun and forced her behind a building. Police said the suspect, 25-year-old Malcolm Mitchell of Charlotte, sexually assaulted the victim behind the building.
The victim called police after the attack, and on June 27, police said they found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle provided by the victim. Mitchell, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested for a traffic violation, and more information indicated he was the suspect in the sexual assault case, police said.
Mitchell was arrested Wednesday and faces charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree attempted armed robbery, multiple counts of first-degree sex offense and first-degree attempted sex offense.
