Charlotte traffic: Car overturned on Independence, I-85 SB lanes reopen

A motorist suffered minor injuries when his Chevy Trailblazer overturned as he exited outbound Independence Boulevard onto Briar Creek Road at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

One lane of Independence remained blocked as of 7:50 a.m., and Briar Creek Road can’t be accessed.

A wreck, meanwhile, closed two lanes of Interstate 85 southbound near University City Boulevard, Exit 43. The wreck happened about 7:45 a.m. The lanes reopened by 8:10 a.m.

Interstate 77 southbound remained congested between Remount and Clanton roads after a wreck with injuries shut two lanes of the highway.

The left two lanes were reopened by 7 a.m., but the right shoulder remained closed for another half-hour, state highway officials said.

The wreck happened about 6:40 a.m.

Police also responded to wrecks in the 6600 block of Idlewild Road, at East Westinghouse Boulevard and Rodney Street, at Providence and Queens roads, The Plaza and Duncan Avenue and in the 5800 block of Reddman Road, which is off Albemarle Road.
