Charlotte-based advocacy group Clean Air Carolina was to honor four people Wednesday for their work to protect air quality.
Airkeeper Awards winners: William Ross Jr., a Raleigh attorney and former North Carolina environment secretary; Rep. Verla Insko, a 10-term state House member from Chapel Hill; Lisa Johnson, coordinator of Vidant Health’s pediatric asthma program and cochair of the Asthma Alliance of North Carolina; and Jason West, who researches air quality, climate change and health impacts at UNC Chapel Hill.
The awards were presented before the first N.C. BREATHE Conference of air quality researchers, medical professionals and policy makers, to be held Thursday in Raleigh.
