A woman was found dead on a Matthews sidewalk, and police are investigating

A woman was found dead on a Matthews sidewalk Saturday night, and police don’t suspect foul play.

At this time, Matthews police believe that the woman’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but the investigation into her death is still open.

Police responded after getting reports of a woman lying on the sidewalk on the 13000 block of Phillips Road. She had died by the time police arrived.
