Man, red car sought in deadly Albemarle shooting

A man is being sought after a man was shot and killed in Albemarle early Tuesday morning.

Albemarle police say they were called to a disturbance around 12:54 a.m. on N. Seventh Street between East Main Street and Pee Dee Avenue where they found a man lying in the roadway saying he had been shot.

Officials attempted to save the man, identified as Mondrell Walter Leake, but say he died within minutes.

Police are looking for a red car, possibly a Honda or Acura, and a man who was wearing all black. Police say the man was seen leaving the crime scene.

Neighbors told police they heard loud talking and several gunshots before they called 911.
