An argument between roommates led to a deadly shooting in Lincoln County Friday night.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred around 11 p.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Wildale Lane in Lincolnton.

Gary Lee Somerset, 27, was found in a car in the backyard of the home with a gunshot wound to his chest and neck, deputies said. Somerset was pronounced dead on scene, according to deputies.

Three people witnessed the shooting, deputies said.

Ronald Wayne Vaughn, 25, was arrested and confessed to shooting Somerset with a shotgun.

Vaughn was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a weapon of mass destruction. He is being held at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center without bond, deputies say.

Vaughn is expected to have his first court appearance Monday.
