Riders evacuated from Carowinds roller coaster
All riders were safely evacuated from a small roller coaster that became stuck shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday at Carowinds, firefighters and a theme park official said.
The Carowinds staff evacuated about 20 riders from the Flying Ace Aerial Chase about 9:45 p.m., Carowinds spokeswoman Laresa Thompson told the Observer
There were no reported injuries.
The ride has safety features that shut it down if a glitch is detected, Thompson said.
The cause of the shutdown wasn’t known late Saturday.
Charlotte Fire said the children and adults were stuck about 20 feet in the air, WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, reported.
On its website, Carowinds says the Flying Ace Aerial Chase is the tallest ride in the Planet Snoopy kids area. The ride lasts 90 seconds, and has a top speed of 26 miles-per-hour, according to UltimateRollercoaster.com.
