A truck carrying AA batteries spilled its load onto Interstate 77 Wednesday during the morning commute, temporarily blocking the highway, officials said.
The crash happened when the truck collided with the concrete median around 8 a.m. on the southbound side of the road, just south of Exit 88 at Gold Hill Road, said Chuck Haynes, York County Emergency Management director.
Batteries were initially on both sides of the eight-lane highway.
Crews were able to push the batteries into the inside lanes of both directions, and traffic was allowed to move in both directions, Haynes said.
