A man lit his house on fire after being arrested earlier that day, officials said.
Jimmy Messer, 62, was arrested Wednesday with Bobby Messer Jr., 30, who police said was shooting at cars.
Officials arrived at 884 Blackwelder Road and found the men in the yard drinking beer, while watching a lawnmower and vehicle on fire, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said.
Both the lawnmower and car were completely engulfed in flames, according to the sheriff’s office.
Bobby Messer Jr. told authorities he had a gun in his pocket, and he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon for shooting at the cars, deputies said.
Jimmy Messer was arrested and charged with resisting, obstructing and delaying the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
The elder Messer was released on $5,000 bond and walked back to his home where, shortly before 4 a.m., deputies said he set his house on fire.
He was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital. Deputies said he hasn’t been charged for burning his home.
