A pedestrian was struck near the men’s shelter in the 900 block of North Tryon Street about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
Medic reported taking the person to Carolinas Medical Center with potentially life threatening injuries.
No further details were available from police.

▪ A wreck briefly closed the right two lanes of Interstate 85 southbound near Exit 46, Mallard Creek Church Road in Charlotte. The wreck happened about 1:20 p.m.
▪ The left lane of I-85 northbound was closed near Glenwood Drive, Exit 35, in Charlotte about 12:20 p.m. The lane reopened about 12:45 p.m.
▪ A wreck closed the left lane of Interstate 77 southbound near Statesville at 11:20 a.m. The wreck was near mile marker 47, and the lane reopened shortly before noon.
In other traffic news, eastbound East Stonewall Street between South McDowell Street and Charlottetowne Avenue will close at 7 p.m. Friday and reopen by 6 p.m. Sunday so crews can remove a tower crane from the Fountains Uptown construction site.
The detour will be South McDowell and East Morehead streets. Local access will be maintained, although CATS service will be affected, according to the Charlotte Department of Transportation.
