Learn more about the state’s plans for Interstate 485 toll lanes from I-77 to Independence Boulevard at public drop-in sessions next week in Pineville and Matthews.
The meetings will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Pineville United Methodist Church, 110 S. Polk St. in Pineville, and 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, 3316 Pleasant Plains Road in Matthews.
The state plans to add one toll lane in each direction on I-485.
The 17-mile stretch carries between 65,000 and 112,000 vehicles a day and is regularly congested.
State highway officials said the toll lanes, which they call express lanes, would better guarantee travel time.
The project is in the preliminary stages, officials said. In recent months, state highway officials have worked with local government agencies to define the scope of the project.
