Two lanes of the outer loop of the Brookshire near Interstate 77 were closed early Wednesday because of multiple-car crashes, one of which put a good Samaritan in the hospital.
The road was down to one lane was open at 6:30 a.m., causing major backups onto inbound Independence, media outlets were reporting.
Two vehicles were involved in the initial collision and a third vehicle stopped on the side of the road to attempt to provide assistance. When that person exited his vehicle he was struck by yet another car which was passing by.
Multiple people are injured. At least one of the people involved in the accidents has potentially life threatening injuries, police said.

A good Samaritan who pulled over to help after a crash on the outer loop of Brookshire Freeway near Interstate 77 was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, two vehicles were involved in the initial crash when a driver in a third vehicle stopped on the side of the road to offer help. The man was struck by another car that was passing by as he was getting out of his car.
