Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred Monday at West Charlotte High, officials said Tuesday morning.
Detectives with the crimes against children unit are involved in the case, police said in a statement. The victim is a 14-year-old and the suspect or suspects involved may also be minors, TV station WCNC reported.
“This was not a random act of violence – the victim and suspects are known to one another,” the police statement said. “The suspects have been identified.”
The suspects are not faculty members of the school, police added.
WCNC reported the potential charges include child sexual assault and first- and second-degree forcible fondling.
