Gastonia man injured after walking into car’s path, police said
A Gastonia man was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after he walked into the travel lanes of East Long Avenue and was struck by a Toyota Camry on Wednesday, Gastonia police Sgt. K.C. McCabe said.
Mark David Featherston Sr., 50, was struck at East Long Avenue’s intersection with North Broad Street about 3:15 a.m.
Featherston was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia and was later transferred to Carolinas Medical Center.
Speed and impairing substances didn’t contribute to the collision, and no charges against the driver are planned, McCabe said.
Anyone who saw Featherston before the collision is asked to call Officer L.A. Popovich at 704-866-6967 or Gastonia police front desk at 704-866-6702.
