Lawyers Road reopens after suspicious package ‘rendered safe’ by Charlotte police
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report they are reopening Lawyers Road after “rendering safe” a suspicious package that prompted a call neighbors to stay in their homes.
Police say they are still investigating exactly what was in the package, found near a mailbox in the Marlwood community. That’s southeast of the intersection of Lawyers Road and Idlewild Road North.
Investigators say a resident in the 5000 block of Harri Ann Drive called 911 at 7:42 a.m. in reference to a found suspicious item on the sidewalk. Members from CMPD's Bomb Squad, Charlotte Fire Department, and Medic were notified and responded to the scene. As a precaution, residents were told to stay inside their homes and traffic on Lawyers Road was shut down, police said.
A detective with the CMPD's Special Operations Division Arson Unit will investigate this incident.
The device has been rendered safe. #CMPD is investigating to determine exactly what it was. Roads are being reopened in the next few moments.
