Applications are due April 30 for the 2015 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Officers Clark and Shelton scholarships.

The scholarships were created in memory of CMPD Officers Sean Clark, 34, and Jeff Shelton, 35, who were fatally shot March 31, 2007, after responding to an unrelated domestic call at the Timber Ridge Apartments in east Charlotte.

Demeatrius Montgomery was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without parole. In 2012, the N.C. Court of Appeals denied Montgomery’s appeals in the murders.

Charlotte’s Finest Legacy Foundation will award two $2,500 one-time scholarships.

Applicants must want to pursue a law enforcement career.

They must be high school seniors or currently enrolled college students and should have an immediate family member employed with a law enforcement agency in Mecklenburg, Stanly or Lincoln counties.

For questions regarding the application, contact Jennifer Shelton at jshelton2884@gmail.com or Sgt. Susan Manassah at smanassah@cmpd.org.
