Authorities have identified the three men who died Monday on Interstate 77 in Charlotte when their BMW exceeded 100 mph and traveled beneath a tractor-trailer headed in the same direction.
Killed in the wreck were the BMW’s driver, Alcides Adan Arais Diaz, 25, and his passengers, Keneth Romero Tzul, 30, and Lelis Baltazar, 37, all of Charlotte, Trooper John Burgin of the State Highway Patrol said.
Both vehicles were northbound, and the tractor-trailer driver didn’t realize at first that a car had traveled beneath his truck, Burgin said.
The impact tore the roof off the car, Burgin said.
Alcohol use may have been a factor in the crash, but authorities are awaiting the results of toxicology tests. Joe Marusak
