Jill Biden named CPCC graduation speaker

Jill Biden, an English professor and wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will be Central Piedmont Community College’s graduation speaker on May 14, the college announced Thursday.

The graduation ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte.

The college anticipates as many as 1,800 students will graduate in May, with about 800 participating in the ceremony.

Biden teaches full-time as a professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College and has proclaimed community colleges as “one of America’s best-kept secrets.”

“We could not be happier to have Dr. Jill Biden as our 2015 graduation speaker,” CPCC President Tony Zeiss said in a statement. “Dr. Biden will speak directly to our graduates’ hopes and aspirations and the challenges they have faced along the way. She will know our students well because she has taught so many community college students in her career as an educator.”
