A 28-year-old woman was found dead early Sunday morning at the end of an Interstate 85 entrance ramp, a victim of an apparent hit and run, according to the Gastonia Police Department.

Officers found the body of Tamesha Beam of Gastonia at about 5:30 a.m. on the side of the ramp to I-85 southbound at Cox Road.

Beam’s sister told police that she had seen Beam about an hour before finding her on the side of the road.

Police said the two women were getting a ride home from Charlotte early Sunday when there was an argument in the vehicle. The driver reportedly pulled over, at which point all three people got out of the car.

Beam’s sister told police she walked home from there. The driver told police she saw another vehicle come down the entrance ramp and heard a noise, but did not see Beam. The driver then went back to her vehicle, and left the scene.

About an hour later, the sister and the driver spoke by phone and learned that Beam was unaccounted for, police said, so they both returned to the entrance ramp and found Beam’s body on the side of the road.

Police said her injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Anyone with information about the incident is advised to call 704-842-5166 or 704-866-6702.
