Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives were investigating the death of a man who arrived at Carolinas Medical Center-University hospital with a gunshot wound Sunday afternoon and later died.
University City Division officers responded to a call at 1:48 p.m. reporting an assault with a deadly weapon. At the hospital, they spoke to a woman who said her boyfriend drove himself to her home after being shot. She drove him to the emergency department, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim Monday morning as Rayquan Levon Holmes, 37.
Detectives were talking with the girlfriend to determine where the shooting occurred, and Crime Scene Search is processing evidence at the hospital. Karen Garloch and Andrew Dunn
