Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives charged Rogelio Marin Ramirez, 24, on Sunday in connection with an assault near UNC Charlotte.
On March 31 at about 9:30 p.m., officers responded to an assault call in the 9000 block of University City Boulevard, where the complainant told officers she was walking from the parking deck to her apartment when a man approached her in the hallway and began to assault her.
He fled when other residents entered the hallway, and the victim said she immediately called 911 from her apartment.
Officers searched the area but found no one fitting the suspect’s description. Since then, police said, they worked closely with the apartment complex to notify residents about the assault.

With assistance from the UNC Charlotte Police Department, they identified Ramirez as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On Sunday, police officers from the Independence Division arrested Ramirez at his residence and transferred him to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he was served the outstanding warrant for sexual battery.
