About 20,000 yellow rubber duckies bobbed through churning rapids at the U.S. National Whitewater Center on Sunday during KinderMourn’s 11th annual Hope Floats Duck Race.

For the race, rubber ducks were “adopted” by teams of bereaved parents, grieving children and friends in memory of loved ones. The grand prize for the fastest duck was $2,500.

Proceeds benefit KinderMourn, which was created in 1978 to provide support for parents dealing with the death of a child. Later, it expanded to also helping children 5 and older deal with death.
