New guide teaches gardening techniques
Students from Oaklawn Language Academy in Charlotte did gardening projects Tuesday to demonstrate the value of the “Schoolyard Gardening Guide,” developed by the nonprofit Green Teacher Network. Piedmont Natural Gas gave a $25,000 donation to the network to create the guide, which is free for all Charlotte-area teachers who want to use school gardens as part of their curriculum. In Charlotte, more than 170 schools have schoolyard gardens, organizers said.
