One man was killed early Sunday when his Ford Ranger truck got into a head-on collision with a Nissan Altima in east Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Jose Coronado, 31, was turning left on a red arrow at the intersection of East W.T. Harris Blvd. and Milton Road, and he turned into the path of the Nissan, police said.

Coronado was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders arrived, just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The driver and passengers inside the Nissan were taken to Carolinas Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

Police believe Coronado was consuming alcohol before the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
