Panther Cam Newton issues a rare tweet and it’s about NFL’s new pizza sponsor
Carolina Panther Cam Newton is not big on Twitter, having tweeted only 372 times in seven years, so Panthers fans pay attention on the rare occasions he steps up with a message.
On Wednesday, Newton gave us one of those rare tweets and it was about a topic we’d least expect: Pizza Hut.
His message to 1.1 million followers was to welcome Pizza Hut to the NLF, after it was announced that America’s largest pizza chain was replacing Papa John’s as a sponsor.
Welcome to the League @pizzahut. Glad to see u guys on board with the NFL. Let’s eat!

Strange, yes. But Newton made news in 2016 when he visited a Pizza Hut that had just closed and left a tip of nearly $50 for one pizza to thank the staff for serving him after hours. The staff didn’t realize who it was until after he drove off, but they do recall he wore “a funny black hat” and had a license plate that read: “Chosen.”
It could be he just likes their pizza...a lot.
“Welcome to the League @pizzahut. Glad to see u guys on board with the NFL. Let’s eat!” Newton tweeted. The message was also posted on his Facebook page.
The tweet has gotten hundreds of retweets nearly 3,000 likes, and a even reply from Pizza Hut calling him part of their family.
“Someone wants to be a spokesperson,” tweeted fan Mark Perry, echoing an idea several fans suggested as a possibility.
Panther Christian McCaffrey tweeted a similar welcome to Pizza Hut on Thursday.
