1 dead in Cleveland County wreck
One motorist is dead and several others have been taken to a hospital after a wreck on College Avenue at Lafayette Street near Shelby early Wednesday, multiple media outlets are reporting.
A motorcycle and a crumpled Dodge Neon were towed from the scene shortly after 6:30 a.m., WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, reported. College Avenue remained closed.
In Charlotte, a wreck with injuries is blocking the left lane of Interstate 85 southbound near Graham Street, Exit 40. The wreck happened about 7 a.m.
At 7:30 a.m., a disabled vehicle was blocking the center lane of I-85 southbound near Bruton Smith Boulevard Exit 49 in Concord.
A wreck with injuries was reported shortly before 7:30 a.m. at East 36th Street and The Plaza.
No one was injured when a car struck a Matthews Country Day Child Enrichment Center bus at Margaret Wallace Road and Olde Creek Trail in Charlotte. Firefighters evaluated the children on the bus.
Other wrecks have been reported in the 10500 block of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road and at East W.T. Harris Boulevard and Hickory Grove Road.
North Tryon Street between East 36th Street and Hilo Drive reopened in both directions about 5 a.m. Wednesday after a large tree fell across the road and onto several power lines Tuesday evening, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Officer Keith Trietley said.
