A woman was burned by hot oil Monday while waiting in line for food at a Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant in Charlotte, police said.

The accident happened at 8:34 p.m. inside the Chipotle restaurant on South Kings Drive in Midtown, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report. Stacey Graf, 25, had been waiting in line when, the report said, she “lost her footing and fell” after hot oil spilled onto the floor.

In a 911 call to police, a woman told the dispatcher that a fryer fell and hot oil “got on the customer.”

Graf was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious burns, the report said, and then was transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Wake Forest on Wednesday said Graf was in good condition.

The Midtown Chipotle declined to comment, but a company spokesman told the Observer that two customers were injured at the restaurant. He did not disclose additional details but did release this statement:

“We are extremely sorry for this unfortunate incident. We are very concerned that we could have allowed this to happen in one of our restaurants, and are investigating the cause so that we can understand exactly how it happened, and ensure that it never happens again. Our thoughts are with the injured customers and we are eager to provide whatever help and assistance we can.”
