Seven people were hurt, including five with life-threatening injuries, after a wreck Thursday morning on Interstate 85 at the Brookshire Freeway.

An infant was among those injured, and officials say the child did not have “proper seating,” according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner. Four other children also were hurt.

The wreck occurred around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Authorities have not said what led to the wreck, but a van involved in the crash struck the bridge at the Brookshire exit. Two lanes of the interstate were shut down as emergency crews responded to the scene.

Medic said the seven patients were all taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.
