South Rowan High on lockdown

South Rowan High School is under a Code Yellow precautionary lockdown, according to Rowan-Salisbury Schools spokesperson Rita Foil.

Foil said the lockdown was put in place as a precaution, based on the advice of law enforcement.

Sources not connected with school administration said there had been rumors that a fight might take place on campus, based on an off-campus incident that occurred Wednesday night.

A Connect Ed message went out to parents from Principal Kelly Withers advising parents of the lockdown.

Code Yellow means:

▪ All doors to the school are locked and secured.

▪ Students do not leave the building, and there are no outside activities.

▪ Class continues as usual.

▪ Parents can enter, but doors remain locked after they enter or leave the building.

“We will continue to work with law enforcement following their advisement,” Foil wrote in an email to WBTV.

“The safety of our students is a top priority and we will continue to take all necessary measures in assuring that our school remains a safe environment for all our students and staff.”
