Why are some uptown streets barricaded Friday night?

Drivers heading to events in uptown Charlotte Friday night were greeted by barricades at key intersections, including at Church and Stonewall, and Stonewall and South Tryon streets.

The barricades were up to protect runners in the 19th annual Right Moves for Youth Twilight 5K, a road race and walk that began at 7 p.m.

Police said the event was expected to end by 9 p.m., when the barricades will be removed.
