Fire heavily damages house in north Charlotte

It took firefighters 10 minutes to put out a blaze on Jennings Street in north Charlotte early Saturday, Charlotte Fire Department officials said.

The department got the 911 call about 9:35 a.m. on Saturday that heavy flames and smoke were coming from 1700 Jennings.

By 9:52 a.m., 22 firefighters had brought the blaze under control. No injuries were reported, officials said.

The fire apparently started in a utility room and spread quickly to the attic, WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, reported fire officials saying. Firefighters were able to control the blaze by cutting holes into the roof.

The family living there made the 911 call.
