South Charlotte DWI checkpoint results in 51 charges

Six people were charged with driving while intoxicated during a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police DWI checkpoint late Saturday and early Sunday in the Steele Creek Division in south Charlotte, officials said.

The checkpoint, which resulted in 51 charges, was held at South Tryon Street and Tyvola Centre Drive, near Renaissance Park. Nineteen officers were involved, officials said.

Among the other charges: Open container, 3; no operator’s license, 13; driving with license revoked, 6; no tags or inspection, 12; drug offenses, 1; outstanding warrants for arrest, 2. Two other people were charged with unspecified offenses.
