Charlotte traffic: 1 dead, 2 seriously injured in I-85 S. wreck
One person was killed and two others have life-threatening injuries following an accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 85 South near Sugar Creek Road, Medic said.
The patients were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, Medic said at about 1:20 p.m.
The Charlotte Fire Department said the accident involved one car. Nineteen firefighters responded to the wreck.
The wreck has closed three lanes of southbound I-85 in the area. State transportation officials estimate the interstate could reopen by 3 p.m.
