Charlotte area weekend events could cause traffic concerns
Weekend events big and small could cause traffic headaches for Charlotte area drivers.
Among the events are the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Country Club, the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and related events at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord and the Arena Pro Swim Series at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in uptown Charlotte.
The speedway has a Twitter account just for traffic issues around the track, @CMStraffic.
For the two major events in Charlotte, drivers should be able to use plenty of connecting streets to get around the area, said Linda Durrett, spokeswoman for the Charlotte Department of Transportation.
People can always go to charmeck.org and look for street use and event notices.
For instance, the Charlotte VegFest festival in Plaza Midwood runs from 2-7 p.m. Saturday on Commonwealth Avenue. The road will be closed between Gordon Street and The Plaza from noon to 8 p.m. to make way for the healthy food festival.
And in Concord, drivers should give themselves extra time if they need to get anywhere around the speedway or nearby Concord Mills mall.
