Authorities identify woman killed in fall at Crowders Mountain
Authorities have released the name of a woman who fell to her death Saturday while trying to take a picture with her family on Crowders Mountain.
Fire officials told WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, that 48-year-old Stephanie Anderson was trying to take a family picture with one of her daughters and husband when she fell Saturday afternoon.
The woman fell at The Pinnacle, the park’s highest peak at 1,705 feet, park Superintendent Larry Hyde told the Observer.
The woman fell at about 1:20 p.m., according to a Gastonia Fire Department spokesman. About 20 rescue personnel from the Gastonia Fire Department, and Gaston Emergency Medical Services hiked through tough terrain on the Gaston-Cleveland county line to reach the woman, and immediately administered critical care to her, the spokesman said.
The Pinnacle, also referred to as Kings Pinnacle, is on the west side of the mountain.
